Golfbanen in Zuid-Wales
Zuid-Wales is het golfrijkste deel van het land, een gevarieerde regio die loopt van de kust van het Bristolkanaal en het schiereiland Gower door de groene valleien tot aan de zuidrand van de Brecon Beacons. Met ongeveer 74 banen biedt het een uitzonderlijke keuze in een relatief compact gebied, van spectaculaire links op de kliffen en kustbanen tot bebost parkland en glooiende heidebanen in het oude valleienland. De afwisseling van het terrein, veelal dramatisch en aan de kust, maakt golfen hier zo lonend.
De blikvangers onderstrepen de breedte. Celtic Manor en de Roman Road-baan nabij Newport is een toonaangevend resort dat golf op het hoogste niveau heeft georganiseerd, terwijl op de Gower de Pennard Golf Club een gevierde klifflinks is hoog boven weidse stranden, met Langland Bay en Clyne die in de buurt meer kust- en heidegolf bieden. Rond Cardiff en Swansea bieden clubs als Whitchurch en Morriston toegankelijke parklandrondes dicht bij de steden. Het Zuid-Welshe klimaat is mild en de kust houdt de banen een groot deel van het jaar bespeelbaar. Voor de reizende golfer is het een regio van vriendelijke clubs, fraai landschap en een werkelijk brede mix van links en parkland binnen handbereik.
