Golf in Malta

Malta packs a great deal of character into a very small space, and its golf is no exception. This sun-drenched archipelago in the heart of the Mediterranean enjoys one of the mildest climates in Europe, with warm, dry summers and gentle winters that make golf a genuinely year-round pursuit. Indeed, the cooler months from autumn to spring are arguably the finest time to play, when temperatures are comfortable and the islands' famous light is at its softest. Golf here is intimate rather than expansive, and the experience is defined by the Royal Malta Golf Club, the island's historic home of the game.

For the travelling golfer, Malta's appeal lies in combining a round or two with everything else the islands offer: honey-coloured limestone towns, ancient temples, crystalline swimming coves and a relaxed Mediterranean pace of life. Distances are tiny, so a morning on the course can easily be followed by an afternoon exploring Valletta or the coast. It is a destination best suited to those who want golf as part of a wider escape rather than the sole focus of a trip, rewarding visitors with sunshine, history and warm hospitality in a setting that is unmistakably, and charmingly, Maltese.
