Golf in Sweden

Sweden offers some of the most rewarding golf in northern Europe, a country where the game is part of everyday life and where, by reputation, more courses exist per head of population than anywhere else on the continent. The landscape is a quiet pleasure in itself: pine and birch forest, glittering lakes, rolling farmland and a long, indented coastline give Swedish courses a calm, open character. Most of the golf sits in two broad areas. The Stockholm and Gothenburg corridor, by far the busiest, gathers the great majority of the country's roughly two hundred courses around its lakes, archipelagos and leafy suburbs, while the southern province of Skåne offers a gentler, more pastoral setting close to the sea.

The best months run from late spring through early autumn, when the famously long Nordic daylight lets you play deep into the evening. Around the cities you will find polished resort layouts, woodland courses and friendly members' clubs, almost always well kept and unhurried.
