Golf in Romania

Romania is one of Europe's quietest and most intriguing golf outposts, a country still very much at the start of its golfing story and all the more characterful for it. Its landscapes are dramatic and varied, from the great plains and rolling farmland of the south to the wooded foothills that climb towards the Carpathian mountains, giving the few courses here a sense of open space and big skies. Golf is concentrated around the capital, Bucharest, an energetic city of grand boulevards, leafy parks and a lively cultural life that makes a natural base for a short, exploratory trip rather than a dedicated golf tour.

The season runs from spring to autumn, with warm, sometimes hot summers and especially pleasant golfing weather in late spring and early autumn. The handful of courses near Bucharest, among them Bucharest Golf Club and the Selas Golf and Polo Club, offer open, parkland-style golf in green, peaceful surroundings, with easy access to tee times and a warm, personal welcome that comes from a small, close-knit golfing community. Costs are modest and the pace unhurried. For the curious, well-travelled golfer who enjoys discovering somewhere new and combining a round or two with food, history and genuine hospitality, Romania offers a refreshingly different and quietly rewarding experience.
