Walton Heath Golf Club stands as one of the great heathland venues of English golf, occupying an exposed ridge of the Surrey Downs above Tadworth. The club has two full-length courses — the Old and the New — both routed across the same sweeping heathland terrain, with heather, gorse and bracken defining the holes and punishing anything other than accurate play. Walton Heath's history in professional and amateur golf is substantial: it has hosted Ryder Cups, European Opens and numerous national championships, attracting some of the sport's greatest names. The windswept heathland setting, often raw in autumn and winter, produces a stern examination of technique and temperament that players return to repeatedly. Membership is much coveted and visitor access carefully managed, reflecting the club's standing as one of Surrey's most revered golfing institutions.
