Golfclub Essen-Heidhausen e.V.

Rhine-Ruhr, Germany

Golfclub Essen-Heidhausen, founded in 1970, is one of the more substantial golfing venues in the Ruhr region, offering 27 holes spread across three interconnected nine-hole loops. The main 18-hole course was shaped by Donald Harradine, the Swiss-based British architect whose work across Europe ranged from demanding parkland to delicate heathland designs. Rolling terrain, mature woodland, ponds and streams create a natural feel that belies the urban surroundings. The additional nine-hole course adds flexibility for shorter sessions or mixed-ability groups. Practice facilities are thorough and the club maintains a competitive calendar that reflects its long history in the region. For visitors, the Heidhausen layout offers genuine variety and the kind of natural setting rarely associated with an industrial city.
