Tróia Golf Course occupies a dramatic setting on the Tróia Peninsula, a narrow finger of land stretching into the Sado estuary south of Setúbal, roughly an hour from Lisbon. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1980, this 18-hole championship course runs along Atlantic dunes and pine forests with the estuary and open sea providing a constant and spectacular horizon. It is considered one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in southern Europe, with elevated tees, sweeping doglegs, and demanding green complexes that punish imprecision. The ferry crossing from Setúbal to reach the peninsula adds a touch of adventure, and dolphins in the estuary are not an uncommon sight. Tróia has hosted the Portuguese Open and remains a bucket-list destination for golfers visiting the Lisbon and Setúbal region.
