Golfclub Emmeloord

Emmeloord, Netherlands, Netherlands

Golfclub Emmeloord is based in Emmeloord, the main town of the Noordoostpolder, one of the youngest and most distinctive polders in the Netherlands, reclaimed from the IJsselmeer in the twentieth century. The landscape here is relentlessly flat and agricultural, an entirely man-made environment that gives the course an unusual, almost surreal openness. This extremity of flatness and the exposure to winds crossing the open polder create a demanding and idiosyncratic playing environment. For golfers with an interest in the human geography of the Netherlands, playing in the Noordoostpolder is itself an experience, regardless of course layout.
