Golfclub Flevoland

Netherlands, Netherlands

Golfclub Flevoland is one of the most distinctively situated courses in the Netherlands, founded in 1979 and occupying land some 3.5 metres below sea level directly behind the eastern Flevoland dike on the edge of the IJsselmeer. The 18-hole course is sheltered by the Zuigerplasbos forest on one side and open to the dike on the other, creating a unique combination of shelter and exposure. The layout incorporates par 3, par 4 and par 5 holes with water hazards, and the fast greens are a noted feature of the club. The below-sea-level setting, visible reminders of the reclaimed seabed landscape and the proximity of the IJsselmeer give Golfclub Flevoland an atmosphere that is genuinely unlike anything else in Dutch golf.
