Old Course

St Andrews, Fife & St Andrews, Scotland

The Old Course at St Andrews is the most celebrated golf course in the world, the ancient ground across which the modern game took shape over several centuries. Stretching along the Eden Estuary on the northern edge of the town, its famous features — the Road Hole, the Valley of Sin, the Swilcan Bridge, the shared fairways, the massive double greens — are familiar to every serious golfer regardless of whether they have played the course. Managed by the St Andrews Links Trust as a public course, it remains remarkably accessible to visitors through a ballot and booking system. To play the Old Course is to engage directly with the history of the game in a way no other course on earth can offer.
