Golf courses in Tenerife

Tenerife is the golfing capital of the Canary Islands, a volcanic destination where around 9 courses make the most of an extraordinary year-round climate. This is the closest mainland Europe gets to true winter golf in shirtsleeves: with subtropical warmth and the bulk of Mount Teide cooling the higher ground, golfers can play in spring-like conditions in the depths of January. The courses are set against a backdrop of volcanic slopes, palm-lined fairways and the deep blue Atlantic, giving rounds a scenery you simply do not find on the Spanish mainland.

The variety packs a lot into one island. In the sunny south, Golf Costa Adeje and Amarilla Golf serve the main resort belt, while the cliff-top Abama Golf offers one of the island's most dramatic settings above the ocean. To the north, the historic Real Club de Golf de Tenerife brings a more traditional, established character, with Campo de Golfe La Rosaleda, Centro de Golf Los Palos and others filling out the picture for shorter games and practice. For a travelling golfer chasing sunshine when the rest of Europe is cold, Tenerife is one of the continent's most reliable and rewarding winter escapes.
